Recently I’ve been seeing this 67-72 Chevy around town. I got an up close look at the liquor store a few days ago (I was buying a couple 4-packs of my favorite root beer, and stuffing them under the seat of my scooter).
Its a big block (402) Camper Special. I spoke briefly with the owner. It came from LA, which is why the body is so.... Still in existence.
Dig the cubby hole. He opened it for me, it’s deeper than I expected.

built-in storage is so handy. not really sure why this isn’t done anymore, especially as big and bloated as trucks have become. surely there’s some room for a cubby or two.

I love it. Perfectly imperfect.

Agreed. Nissan had it as an option on the first gen Titan when it dropped, but I don't think that option lived very long.

There are a few pickups that have cubbies. Ram still offers the option RamBox pockets sills of the bed, Tacomas have a small storage bins with lids in the bed liner, and the Honda has that trunk under the bed. Of course none of those are accessible from the outside of the bed (the RamBox sort of is but not with a tonneau or camper on). From what I’ve heard they went away due to corrosion issues. Water got trapped in the bins and/or the gaps between them and the main bed and caused early rust issues.

My dad used to have one like that in metallic green. One cool thing about M37 Dodges is they have a storage compartment that runs the full width of the bed behind the cab, at the front of the lower bed. Good for high lift jacks etc...
